Meals on Wheels Driver

  • 10:30 AM - noon
  • Volunteers can be scheduled for a particular day or can be on a substitute list.
  • Duties include:
    • Picking up pre-packed hot meals from partner site (Beechmont Community Center or SME hospital)
    • Deliver meals to homebound clients on specified route (approx. 10 stops), and return supplies to partner site
    • Communicate with MOW coordinator about any client concerns

Receptionist

  • 4-8 hours at a time (8:30 AM – 4:00 PM)
  • Volunteers can be scheduled for a particular day or can be on a substitute list.
  • Duties include:
    • Answering the phone and door
    • Answering client questions about SLCM services
    • Communicating with staff and volunteers to coordinate timely service for clients

Waiting Room Greeter

  • 3 ½ hours at a time (12:30-4PM)
  • Volunteers can be scheduled for a particular day or can be on a substitute list.
  • Duties include:
    • Welcoming clients
    • Checking client identification
    • Assisting clients in correctly completing required documentation
    • Liaising between the receptionist and food packer
    • Assisting with the distribution of special items—baby supplies, TARC tickets, vouchers

Intake Volunteer

  • 4 hours either 9:00-12:30 or 12:30-4:00 Monday-Friday
  • Volunteers can be scheduled for a particular day or can be on a substitute list.
  • Duties include:
    • Conducting pre-screening interviews with clients over the phone
    • Assessing eligibility for SLCM programs through questions, agency database, and utility company website
    • Referring clients for other SLCM services or to other agencies as needed
    •  Communicating  with the social workers regarding families requesting assistance

Food Packer

  • 1:00-4:00 PM, Monday to Friday or 4-6PM on some Monday evenings.
  • Volunteers can be scheduled for a particular day or can be on a substitute list.
  • Duties include:
    • Packing groceries from shelves into bags for between 12 and 20 families
    • Following Dare to Care and USDA guidelines to assemble food orders
    • Restocking shelves as needed
    • Keep food pantry neat and free of hazards, adhering to food safety guidelines

Dare to Care Truck Unloading

  • From 9:30 to 11AMon the 2nd Thursday of each month
  • Duties include unloading food deliveries (expect to lift boxes up to 40 lbs)
  • Correctly shelving the items. 

Gleanings Delivery

  • 2 hours at a time
  • Deliver a portion of our newsletter to our partners and donors
  • Each route includes about 12 stops.

Food Pickup

  • 2 hours at a time (8:30 AM – 4:00 PM)
  • Load cases of food into your own vehicle from warehouse or grocery store
  • Transport food to SLCM and help unload food into store room.

Senior Commodities Delivery

  • 1 hour at a time (8:30 AM – 4:00 PM)
  • Pick up boxes of food from SLCM and deliver to homebound seniors.
  • Each box weighs approximately 20 pounds.
  • These food orders are delivered monthly.
